This season, it's the brightest stars of the piano heavens who will be visiting: Igor Levit, Grigory Sokolov, Víkingur Ólafsson – the Concert Hall's Artist-in-Residence – and Leif Ove Andsnes. The term 'unique' is worn out, but it's difficult to find better words to describe her. Nguci was admitted to the conservatory in Paris at the age of 13 and graduated three years later with top marks. Since then, she has studied both pedagogy and musical analysis in Paris, as well as conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
In recent years, she has made her debut on virtually all of the world's major stages: Musikverein in Vienna, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Tonhalle in Zurich, the Sydney Opera House, Philharmonie de Paris. The list could go on. With the concert together with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 (Thursday, November 21) and this recital, she makes her long-awaited debut at Konserthuset Stockholm.
We hear her in musically exciting and technically demanding pieces such as Scriabin's fifth piano sonata, which alternates between floating impressionism and explosive chords, Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit with its cascading soundscapes, and Prokofiev's intense sixth piano sonata.
Schumann's Kreisleriana, subtitled Fantasies for Pianoforte, oscillates between feverish nervousness and darkly veiled contemplations. He wrote them for his beloved wife Clara but nevertheless dedicated them to Frédéric Chopin, whom he considered to be a genius.

The range is enormous, from small and short simple pieces to brutal outbursts and virtuosic explosions. The famous Raindrop Prelude No. 15 is said to be inspired by the perpetual raining on the island.
Norwegian Leif Ove Andsnes, one of the world's most acclaimed pianists, begins his recital with his compatriot Edvard Grieg's piano sonata, written three years before the famous piano concerto. And there are similarities: romantically flowing melodies and glimpses of Norwegian folk music. Grieg has also, like Bach and Shostakovich, embedded himself in the music: the first three notes are e, h, g – the initials of his name Edvard Hagerup Grieg.
Between Grieg and Chopin, Andsnes performs music by another compatriot, Geirr Tveitt (1908–81). He was a concert pianist himself, and his both powerful and sometimes meditative music is often inspired by folk music from Hardanger Valley.

He has appeared at Konserthuset Stockholm on several occasions, including during the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, when he performed all of Beethoven's piano sonatas in a series of live-streamed concerts (due to the pandemic).
Beethoven is also featured on the program for this concert: the third symphony – Eroica – in Franz Liszt's famous arrangement. The program as a whole consists of what is often referred to as the three great Bs of classical music history: Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and begins with Bach's chromatic fantasy and fugue. It was acclaimed and regarded as a masterpiece even during Bach's lifetime, filled with advanced voice leading and lightning-fast runs.
Between Bach and Beethoven, Levit has placed Brahms' atmospheric and youthfully explosive ballades; he was only 21 years old when he wrote them. They are designed as short musical narratives. We know that the first one is based on an old Scottish ballad about Edward, who returns home with blood on his sword. The atmosphere is dark and ominous. However, no source material for the other three has been preserved.

The New York Times coined him ”Iceland's Glenn Gould”, and his recordings are showered with five-star reviews. This season, he is the Artist-in-Residence at Konserthuset Stockholm.
Following the success of Bach's Goldberg Variations, which he performed to a full house here at Konserthuset last season, he takes on another of classical music's great B's this season – Beethoven. At this solo recital, we hear Beethoven's late piano sonatas.
Beethoven is never predictable, and in his final sonatas, he is reflective and melancholic, ecstatically passionate, humorous, and life-affirming; the music is like a whole life story. ”Beethoven's last three sonatas are a kind of testament”, says Víkingur Ólafsson.
