About the video
- Filmed in June 2016.
- The video is approximately 39 minutes.
Antonín Dvorák had enormous international successes in his life and crowned his career with an appointment as a professor of composition in New York. Despite so much success, he retained his down-to-earth attitude towards his life and art. Perhaps this was due to being raised as a butcher’s son in the little Bohemian village of Nelahozeves.
According to tradition, he should have followed in his father’s footsteps. But it was not to be. And everyone who loves his music can be grateful for that. But the countryside was an ever-present source of inspiration, which is particularly evident in the Eighth Symphony, which emerged during long walks through the forest and fields. In this concert, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and its Chief Conductor Sakari Oramo take us out into Dvorák’s inviting musical landscape.
